Tom McKay, B.Comm., ICSP

Tom McKay developed an international reputation for his Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED pronounced sep-ted) and crime prevention expertise as a 32-year member of Peel Regional Police, 25 of which was as a CPTED specialist.

Tom founded CPTED Ontario in 2001 transitioning it into CPTED Canada in 2022 a national organization. Since retiring in 2017, Tom has served as the President of the International Society of Crime Prevention Practitioners (ISCPP) from 2018 to 2021 at which time he began a two-year term as Immediate Past President.

He also served on the International Association of Chiefs of Police Crime Prevention Committee from 2018 to 2025 and was designated as a CPTED subject matter expert by the Office of Community Oriented Crime Prevention Services (COPS) in 1998.

Tom remains active as a CPTED trainer, speaker, consultant and writer of articles for many national and international publications including Security Management and Police Chief magazines and spoke at the first annual Crime Prevention International Conference in Dubai where he taught a Crime Prevention and
Problem Solving Course for Dubai Police. He is the recipient of many prestigious awards.
