Chris Haney, ICSP
Chris Haney is a nationally respected law enforcement veteran, educator, and crime prevention expert who serves as the Vice President of the Board of Directors for the International Society of Crime Prevention Practitioners (ISCPP). With more than 30 years of experience in policing, criminal justice education, and community safety, Mr. Haney plays a key leadership role in shaping ISCPP’s mission to promote proactive, research-based strategies for crime prevention worldwide.
A retired Investigator and Supervisor with the Gadsden Police Department in Alabama, Mr. Haney spent over two decades in law enforcement, serving in specialized units including narcotics, tactical operations, school resource, and major crimes. He is highly regarded for his work investigating child homicides and abuse cases and served as the Lead Hostage Negotiator and Assistant Team Leader for the Gadsden/Etowah County Joint Special Operations Group. Over the course of his law enforcement career, he was named Police Officer of the Year seven times, earned Life-Saver Awards, and received multiple Public Achievement honors.
Today, Mr. Haney serves as the Program and Undergraduate Coordinator for Criminal Justice and Forensic Investigation at Jacksonville State University, where he has taught for over a decade. He directs the university’s Forensic Investigation Internship Program, helping prepare the next generation of criminal justice professionals. He also serves as an instructor at the State of Alabama Investigator Academy, where he trains law enforcement officers across the state in advanced investigative practices.
Mr. Haney holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Jacksonville State University and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree at the University of Alabama. His academic interests focus on homicide investigation, behavioral profiling, and interview and interrogation techniques.
In his role with ISCPP, Mr. Haney brings unmatched experience in both the field and the classroom. Involved since 2015 with the organization, his leadership strengthens the Society’s strategic efforts to advance education, collaboration, and innovation in crime prevention across local, national, and international platforms.
