About the International Society of Crime Prevention Practitioners (ISCPP)
Since 1977, the International Society of Crime Prevention Practitioners (ISCPP) has led the global advancement of crime prevention through training, certification, and community-building. Our organization connects public safety professionals, law enforcement, community leaders, and private-sector specialists committed to building safer communities through proactive, evidence-based strategies.
Our Mission
ISCPP’s mission is to support crime prevention practitioners across sectors and borders by:
- Promoting crime prevention education and practice in public, private, and voluntary sectors
- Supporting and guiding the development of impactful programs and strategies
- Responding to the evolving needs of prevention professionals
- Stimulating the global exchange of ideas, innovation, and expertise
- We believe that crime prevention is everyone’s responsibility — and we are here to ensure that those doing the work are equipped, connected, and recognized.
Our History: From Louisville to the World
ISCPP’s roots trace back to the late 1960s, when the University of Louisville (Kentucky, USA), under the leadership of Dean Klotter, studied crime prevention programs emerging in England. At the time, law enforcement was almost entirely reactive, while other professions—such as doctors, fire services, and legal professionals—were already engaged in proactive approaches to risk.
In response, the University launched the National Crime Prevention Institute (NCPI) and hosted groundbreaking, 4-week crime prevention training sessions for law enforcement professionals from around the world.
In 1977, the NCPI Alumni Association was founded to continue developing practitioners through ongoing learning and annual conferences. By 1979, alumni formed an independent body: the International Society of Crime Prevention Practitioners (ISCPP) — an organization dedicated to setting standards, offering certifications, and uniting practitioners worldwide.
Today, ISCPP is one of the longest-standing, practitioner-driven crime prevention organizations in the world.
What We Do
At ISCPP, we are committed to equipping crime prevention professionals with meaningful tools, global networks, and expert-led training.
We offer internationally recognized programs, including our flagship International Crime Prevention Specialist (ICPS) designation and CPTED Level I & II training and more. These programs are delivered by experienced practitioners and tailored to meet the real-world needs of public safety agencies, municipalities, and community organizations.
Our membership community provides exclusive access to a growing digital library of practical resources—from ready-to-use presentations and crime prevention guides to research publications and toolkits. Members also benefit from our international directory, ongoing webinars, and private forums where ideas and strategies are exchanged among professionals worldwide.
Through our biennial International Symposium, virtual events, and specialized trainings, we bring together thought leaders, practitioners, and advocates to share innovations, explore emerging threats, and build safer communities, together.
Board of Directors
Our volunteer-led Board of Directors represents diverse fields of public safety and crime prevention. We are committed to ethical leadership, innovation, and inclusivity.
Code of Ethics
In July 2022, the ISCPP adopted a formal Code of Ethics to reflect our values of integrity, professionalism, and inclusivity. All ISCPP members are expected to:
- Support the organization’s mission and vision
- Uphold the organization’s positive image and reputation
- Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and transparency — including disclosing conflicts of interest
- Treat others with civility, dignity, tolerance, and respect
- Follow local and international laws
- Practice crime prevention professionally and responsibly
- Maintain confidentiality in all activities
- Failure to comply may result in disciplinary action or loss of membership.
